An experimental visit to apiary of Zoology Department

An experimental visit was organized on 06-07-2022 for the students of the University, to the Apiary unit established at Machher by the Department of Zoology, Akal College of Basic Sciences for studying habitat of European honey bee (Apis mellifera). In recent times, beekeeping has become a highly professional activity. The beekeeping also generates off-farm employment opportunities in many fields including hive carpentry, production and sale of honeybee colonies, honey trading, renting and hiring of bees for pollination and bee-based micro enterprises. The main products of beekeeping are honey, bees wax, propolis, royal jelly and pollen. Demonstration was given to the students on the uses of different bee’s products (honey, beeswax, propolis, royal jelly and bee venom). It will impart awareness and new learnings to the students of the University. Another important role of bees is in pollination and thus beekeeping and honey production can be additional enterprise to generate extra income. The nearby areas of Eternal University have large proportion of unapproachable lands for agriculture and are covered with various types of trees, shrubs, bushes and field flowers that make this part of the regions still potential for beekeeping.
