Campus Visit

On 14th December, 2021, Mr. Pawan Kumar Dubey, Assistant Professor, Management along with Mr. Ambar Srivastava, Assistant Professor, Commerce organized educational tour within campus of Eternal University, Baru Sahib for B.Com (Hons) 3rd Semester students.  The students were provided exposure of Food Processing Plants & Laboratory in the Department of Food Technology. The lab incharge demonstrated various machines installed in the unit and explained the students about the process being followed by them in the raw materials such as ginger, amla, etc. to prepare ginger candy, amla candy, puffballs, jam, tomato sauce, and various other products.  The utility of Retort pouch machine installed in the lab for preserving the food products for a longer period was also explained to the students. A hydraulic press machine used for extracting the juice and many other machines such as steam jacketed kettle, fruit pulper, noodles pasta making machine, were shown to the students.  The students were also taken to the Akal Waste Management Complex of Baru Sahib. The students could see the workers while making the files from the waste material and thers were busy in segregating the wet and dry waste of the campus. The wastes used for making flower pots, metallic bricks, etc were also shown to the students.  Then the students were taken to Akal Bakery. Mr. Thappa in-charge of the bakery could tell the students about various products manufactured in the bakery like wheat biscuits, patties, pastries, cakes, bread, etc. Large sized machines like dough mixer, cake mixer, the big oven installed in the bakery were shown to the students. Mr. Thappa in detail told the students about the quantity of raw material used in the bakery on daily basis.  Finally the students were taken to the common mess where the food for around 11000 people can be prepared on time. Mr. Bharpoor,  in-charge of the mess explained that earlier they were using wood for cooking the food but now they are using steam energy  generated from solar panels to cook the food.  The campus visit gave an opportunity to the students to know about the practical aspects of manufacturing, machines used, how to manage waste material, how to optimally utilize the resources, and various other things learned by the students during the visit.
