Dean of the college along with Dr. Shanta Kumari and two post graduate students
of Economics (Ms. Manvider Kaur BS19MSEC003) and Agricultural Economics (Ms.
Pragati Sharma BS20MSAGE001) conducted field survey of Soda Dhyari village,
Gram Panchayat Neri Mavan located in Saindhar. Mr. Puran Dev a progressive
young farmer was contacted and interviewed for various interventions made
through organic cum natural farming. Mr. Puran Dev aged 30 years started his
organic farming in 2013-14 in particular when our state former
hon’ble governor Acharya Dev Varat ji gave call to farming community by
involving Padamshri Awardee Sh. Subhash Palekar. Mr. Puran Dev who was earlier
doing a job in an industry at Baddi H.P involved himself through Farmer
Producer Organizations (FPOs) formed in Sirmour. Mr. Puran Dev at present has
now been identified as master trainer of organic farming and has been
instrumental in delivering practical lectures cum trainings in district
Sirmour. He has about 10 bigha of land where tomato, beans, capsicum, cabbage,
red cabbage, chillies, cauliflower, garlic, etc. are grown. He has built in
three tanks where roof and rainwater is collected for irrigation. Sahiwal cow
and heifer are reared on his farm. Solan, Nahan, Delhi Azadpur markets have
been explored for disposal of his produce. Mr. Puran Chand has trained nearly
1800 farmers in organic farming of which nearly 700 have started organic
farming in distt. Sirmour. At present his net income from organic products is about
Rs. 5 lakh per annum and in near future his target is to draw this much of
income from one bigha of land. About two years ago, he has also planted 300
plants of apple. He says that he had to wait for nearly 3 years to realize the
benefits of organic farming. He lives in a nucleus family comprising his
father, mother and two younger brothers. Soda Dhiyari village has nearly 40
households, all practicing agriculture. Maize is one of the major cereals grown
in kharif. Nearly 70% households possessed bullocks for draft power in
agriculture. The village is having pucca road constructed under Pradhan Mantri
Gram Sadak Yojana. The village is located about 1600 mt above mean sea level.
The PG students of Economics Department were trained in conducting interview of
the farmers and made aware of the crops raised on the fields
