Department of Microbiology offers B.Sc. (Hons.) Microbiology, M.Sc. Microbiology and Ph.D. Microbiology programs which provide in-depth understanding of basic and applied aspects related to bacteriology, phycology, virology, mycology, protistology, immunology, medical microbiology, microbial biotechnology, molecular biology, food & dairy microbiology and agricultural microbiology. Department has a well-equipped laboratory infrastructure and instrumentation facilities to provide professional, industry-oriented and skill-based education to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Necessary instrumentation facilities viz. laminar airflow, bio-safety cabinet, autoclave, compound light microscope, incubators, hot air ovens, colony counter, culture identification kits etc. are available in the departmental and Central Instrumentation Lab for the practical sessions and experimental work of the students. The highly qualified and professionally trained faculties of the department are actively engaged in the area of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria, gastrointestinal helminth parasites, biofuels from microalgae, rhizospheric microbiology, metagenomics and microbial proteomics. Microbiology students are trained to cater to the manpower needs of academic institutions, research centers, clinical diagnostic laboratories, biopharmaceutical industries, quality control laboratories, food production plants, water testing laboratories, waste treatment plants, vaccine production industries, and as epidemiological field workers and biomedical scientists.
M.Sc. Microbiology or M.Sc. in any branch of applied biosciences closely related to Microbiology with 55% marks from a recognized university and at least 50% marks in Eternal University entrance test.
