BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The World Consumer Rights Day – 2026 was
successfully celebrated by the Akal College of Economics, Commerce and
Management (ACECM), Eternal University, Baru Sahib on 13th and 14th March 2026
under the global theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.” The
programme was coordinated by Dr. Desh Raj, Assistant Professor (Commerce) with
the active support of faculty members and enthusiastic participation of
students.
World Consumer Rights Day aims to create
awareness about consumer rights and to protect consumers from unsafe products,
misleading advertisements, and unfair trade practices. Keeping this objective
in focus, the college organized a series of academic and awareness-based
activities to promote responsible consumer behavior among students. The
programme commenced with the Inaugural Ceremony, graced by Dr. T. S. Banipal,
Dean Academic Affairs, as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by the
Deans of various colleges, Heads of Departments (HODs), Registrar, faculty
members, and a large number of students. During the inaugural session, the
importance of consumer awareness and product safety in the modern marketplace
was emphasized, and students were encouraged to become informed and responsible
consumers. This was followed by a Consumer Awareness Rally, where students
actively participated by carrying banners and raising slogans to spread
awareness about consumer rights and safe products across the campus. A Skit
Presentation effectively depicted real-life consumer issues such as counterfeit
products and misleading information, highlighting the need for informed
decision-making. The Poster Making Competition and Flyer Competition provided a
platform for students to express their ideas creatively, while the Quiz
Competition enhanced their knowledge about consumer protection laws and
practices in an interactive manner. The programme concluded with a
well-organized Closing Ceremony, where winners of various competitions were
felicitated. A Consumer Awareness Pledge was also administered to reinforce the
importance of responsible consumer behavior.
Overall, the programme proved to be highly
effective in enhancing awareness, promoting ethical consumption, and developing
students’ communication skills, creativity, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
The event successfully achieved its objectives and reflected the institution’s
commitment to building a more informed, responsible, and confident consumer
society.
