A 10 day online B.Ed. Curriculum Renewal Workshop

A 10 day online  B.Ed. Curriculum Renewal Workshop  was organised by Akal College of Education, Eternal University  in collaboration with  Dev Samaj College of Education ,Chandigarh and Govt. College of Education, Chandigarh  from 5th to 15th July,2021. The workshop started with welcoming of Chief Guest Dr Agneese Dhillon, Principal, Dev Samaj College of Education ,Chandigarh and Guest of Honour Dr Neelam Paul, Associate Professor, Govt. College of Education,Chandigarh. Then Dr Raino Bhatia, Principal presented the following aim and objectives of B.Ed. Curriculum Renewal:

AIM-To objectively and critically analyse and interpret the cardinal issues involved in present curriculum:

Objectives-

  • To find out shortcomings, anomalies and deficiencies in the present curriculum.
  • To amalgamate theory with practical knowledge in Foundation and Pedagogical Subjects this is the need of the hour.

  • Learning and Teaching
  • Assessment for Learning
  • Knowledge and Curriculum
  • Contemporary India and Education
  • Gender ,School and Society
  • Creating an Inclusive School
  • Language Across Curriculum
  • Reading and Reflecting on Texts
  • Understanding Disciplines and Subjects
  • To incorporate school content with pedagogical subjects of B.Ed. so that students may learn pedagogy practically and it also help them to connect with syllabus of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET)
  • To combine ‘Language Across Curriculum’ and ‘Reading and Reflecting on Texts’ into one subject as there is overlapping of syllabus
  • To enhance syllabus of Communicative English which is Add -On Course in curriculum. At present it is less interactive and functional. It has to be made practical by adding listening, speaking, reading and writing activities.
  • To develop guidelines and curriculum of Teaching Skill Development separately as a manual. It has to be included in first and third semester as per NCTE Curriculum Framework, 2014.
  • To add tutorials, field engagements and community service like helping needy children in their studies.
  • To add credits of Co-curricular activities/Club activities in DMC-Journal Club, Literary Club, Sports Club, Media Club, Eco Club, Peace and Harmony Club.
  • To add credits for National Service Scheme (NSS) in DMC
  • To develop curriculum on Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)

Brief outline of workshop

There was brain storming session on B.Ed. Curriculum. After that the faculty of all the three colleges had given their valuable suggestions. There were 16 faculty and all research scholars of Dev Samaj College of Education,Chandigarh,16 faculty and all research scholars of Govt. College of Education, Chandigarh and 07 faculty and 20 B.Ed. Trainees and  of Akal College of Education, Eternal University and 02 research scholars of M.A.(Education) ,Akal College of Arts and Social Sciences. Altogether 101 participants attended workshop.

A outline of the curriculum was made and faculty were divided into groups as per their specialization. Each semester were discussed and made in   two days. And in last two days the whole syllabus was winded up. It was a wonderful work done by the faculty of all three colleges.

The curriculum is made as per NCTE norms. The curriculum is made in such a way so that the B.Ed. Trainees   will be developing into reflective practitioners. The course structure offers a comprehensive coverage of themes and rigorous field engagement with the child, school and community. The programme is comprised of three broad inter-related curricular areas – I) Perspectives in Education, II) Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies, and III) Engagement with the Field. All the courses include in-built field-based units of study, tutorials and practical’s along with theoretical inputs from an interdisciplinary perspective. Engagement with the Field is the curricular component that is meant to holistically link all the courses across the programme, while it also includes special courses for Enhancing Professional Capacities (EPC) of the student teachers. Transaction of the courses will be made using a variety of approaches, such as, case studies, group presentations, projects, discussions on reflective journals, observations of children, and interactions with the community in multiple socio cultural environments .The workshop ended with vote of thanks.
