Departmental visit to the Akal Waste Management Unit at Baru Sahib Campus

Keeping in view the importance of clean environment, department of Chemistry & Biochemistry organised a visit of UG and PG chemistry students to the Akal Waste Management Unit at Baru Sahib campus where Mr. Santosh Shukla interacted with the students and discussed the various methods through which the organic, inorganic and bio-medical waste produced in the campus is managed and treated in the Unit. Further, the students were educated about the different techniques that are used to made useful materials from the waste. One such example is the light-weight brick made up of plastic which has been patented and is also used in the construction of roads in the campus. In addition to this, students were made aware of the day-to-day minor yet crucial issues that pose complications in the efficient working of the Unit and simple but efficient ways through which such issues could be resolved or minimized were also suggested by the Waste Management team so that everybody could contribute in moving a step forward towards the clean environment. At last, there was a discussion round where students asked questions and also shared their views.
