The vast sea of knowledge is an invaluable treasure for humanity, presenting a myriad of applications and advantages. In today's world, the significance of education and scientific research is undeniable. Throughout history, humans have been captivated by physics, driven by their curiosity about the universe's origins, gravity, time and space, optics, electricity, magnetism, atomic structure, fundamental particles, radiation, heat, and more. The Department of Physics is committed to providing female students with a comprehensive understanding of both fundamental and applied physics. Our faculty members also strive to advance research in the diverse fields of materials science, nanotechnology and solar based technologies, amalgamated with spiritualism, making significant contributions to northern India's scientific landscape at Devine Valley of Baru sahib. The Department of Physics is offering various undergraduate and postgraduate course programs i.e. B.Sc. Non-medical; M.Sc. Physics, and Ph.D. Physics. The M.Sc. and Ph.D. Physics course programmes include research specializations in Materials Science and Renewable Energy. To get intensive training and learning, students are actively involved in research work in experimental Physics including theoretical and computational aspects. Our faculty members are publishing their research in refereed high impact national and international journals having impact factor and cite scores more than 10. They have received recognitions in diverse areas at national and international level platforms. Students are excelling at national level selections for admission to IIT and CSIR laboratories across the length and breadth of the country. Department is also involved in collaborative research with scientists and researchers in national and international laboratories and other universities. Department has well equipped teaching and research laboratories including dark room, UG and PG Physics laboratories, materials science & nanotechnology laboratory and renewable energy laboratory. Besides above facilities university campus have following state of the arts instruments at Akal Food Safety and quality control laboratory, which are available to our researchers as centralized facilities:
Department is playing a proactive role in the up gradation and modernization of undergraduate and postgraduate physics curricula through Physics Education Research by conducting workshops and training programs. Our postgraduate students have qualified CSIR-UGC-NET, GATE and various other examinations as well as get selected for prestigious INSPIRE fellowship. Our postgraduate and Ph.D. students are well placed in reputed various government and non-government organizations not only in India as well as abroad. From the academic session 2024-25, the department under Akal College of Basic Sciences will introduce an enriched undergraduate program of B.Sc. Physical Sciences in line with the NEP-2020. This program will feature skill enhancement, value-added courses, ability enhancement courses, and project work based on cutting-edge research.
B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics/ B.Sc. with Physics as one of the subjects with minimum 50% marks. In case of SC/ST and physical challenged category candidates, the minimum aggregate required shall be 45% marks.
