9th CONVOCATION OF ETERNAL UNIVERSITY

Convocation is a day of well-deserved event in the academic career of every student. It recognizes the culmination of the academic journey.  For students, it signifies the completion of years of hard work and the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their lives. For families, it is a day to recognize those years of dedication and to embrace enthusiastically the pride that convocation evokes. For all of us, convocation is a time to look optimistically into the future, to share in centuries-old academic traditions and, most importantly, to celebrate our graduates.

TFlaunting with degrees in hands and faces brightened up with luminous smiles, students were on cloud nine during the 9th Annual convocation of Eternal University, Baru Sahib held on May 21, 2022.  The University Campus was bustling with high voltage energy and emotions as the University felicitated the academic achievers of its 347 students who were celebrating their finest moments while receiving their degrees, including 281 UG and 66 PG students. Counting the family, friends and loved ones, over 525 participants celebrated convocation along with the Faculty of Eternal University this year. 

Hon’ble Chairman the Kalgidhar Trust and Vice Chancellor, Dr Davinder Singh Ji, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. AS Ahluwalia, Members of the Board of Governing Body, Members of Academic Council, Deans, Directors, Principals of respective colleges, distinguished faculty, academic staff and many more luminaries were present on the occasion. The Chairman The Kalgidhar Trust and Vice Chancellor, Dr Davinder Singh presided over the convocation ceremony. The ‘Registrar Eternal University, Dr SK Chauhan delivered the welcome address. He extended warm welcome to the honourable Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr) RC Sobti and presented a bouquet to him.

The Convocation started at sharp 10.00 A.M. with the invocation of the ‘Shabad Kirtan’ followed by the Academic Procession. Procession led by chief guest Prof. (Dr) Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor Dr. Davinder Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr AS Ahluwalia, Deans, Members of the Board of Governing Body, Members of Academic Council, Deans, Directors, Principals of respective colleges, distinguished faculty, academic staff, ceremoniously proceeded to the auditorium.

Giving details about the Chief Guest, Vice-Chancellor Dr Davinder Singh told that Prof. (Dr) Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi is an Indian prosthodontist and the Director and Principal of Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences. He is the Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. The Government of India awarded him, in 2014, with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to the fields of medicine.

Dr Davinder Singh, Vice Chancellor Eternal University gave the formal welcome address and presented synopsis of the annual report for the year 2020.  Vice Chancellor thereupon gave the Degree to each student and showered upon her, his blessings for the near future. Degrees were also being conferred by the Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr AS Ahluwalia and honourable Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr) Mahesh Verma.  After the distribution of degrees to students, the Chief Guest awarded the Medals for Outstanding Achievement to the toppers of the session 2020-21.

  • Ms. Chaitnaya Thakur of B.Sc. Agrl. from DKSGACA

Award of Meritorious Teaching Faculty was given to Dr Simranjeet Singh, HoD, Department of Punjabi. Award of Commendable Exertion to the non-teaching staff was given to Mr Rajesh Kumar, from Examination Department.

The University awarded ‘Certificate of Merit’ to 61 students who were successful in gaining 80% or above marks. University Medals and cash awards were conferred on the brilliant students for the excellence they achieved in their respective subject/discipline:

  • Sh. Pandit  Talalam  Chand  Memorial Excellence Cash Award for standing first in B.Sc. (Hons.) Economics which was sponsored by Sh. DK Sharma and family, with cash award of Rs.10000/- was given to Ms Sukhpreet Kaur.
  • Smt. Narbada Devi Memorial Memorial Excellence Cash Award for standing first in B.Sc. Nursing, which was also sponsored by Sh. DK Sharma and his family, with cash award of Rs. 10000/- was given to Ms Sumanpreet Kaur.
  • Sardarni Tej Kaur Dhaliwal Memorial Excellence Cash Award for standing first in B.Tech. Food Technology, which was sponsored by Dr HS Dhaliwal, with a cash award of Rs 10000/- was awarded to Ms Sukhmanvir Kaur.
  • Sardar Jassa Singh Boparai Memorial Excellence Cash Award for standing first in Agriculture, which was sponsored by Dr BS Boparai, with a cash award of Rs 10000/- was awarded to Ms Rewangini Ranjha.

After the award of Degrees, Merit Certificates and Medals to the students, it was now time for release of publications

Following of the publications were released:

  • 12th Annual Report of the Eternal University for the year 2020-2021.
  • Industrially Important Fungi for Sustainable Development by Dr Ajar Nath Yadav.
  • An Introduction to Integrated Pests and Disease Management by Dr Sushma Sharma and Dr Ramesh Arora.
  • Learn Library Cataloguing by Dr Minakshi Gupta the Deputy Librarian
  • Effective Communication Skills by Dr Kulbhushan Kumar
  • Practical Record Book for Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing by Anupama K.
  • 6th and 7th issue of the EU Voice

Now, it was the time for the Convocation Address by the honourable Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr) Mahesh Verma. In his address he stressed upon the need for value based education in the present context. He also advised the student audience, especially the passing out students to value honesty & integrity at their workplace. He expounded that in India, we have tremendous demographic advantage and potential over others being a young country with nearly 65% of its population below the age of 35 years. Eternal University has been actively engaged in  translating into reality the vision of the great visionary of 20th Century Sant Attar Singh while educating young people to cultivate the minds imbued with the spirit of enquiry, quest for knowledge, respect for diverse world cultures and a keen desire to serve the community in which they live and work as well as aspire to serve the humanity at large by their spiritual values and knowledge acquired through modern  and value based educational approach.

He congratulated all the young graduates who earned their degrees, medals and merit certificates. He advised them to continue to be associated with their Alma Mater, the Eternal University to help it to tread on its path to academic excellence

After this, Dr Davinder Singh Ji, Vice Chancellor, Eternal University delivered the Presidential Address.  The programme ended with honouring of the Chief Guest by presenting him a memento by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Eternal University.

The convocation ceremony was concluded with formal induction of all degree holders and vote of thanks proposed by Dr Davinder Singh, who thanked Honorable Chief Guest for sparing his valuable time and enlightening the august audience. He also acknowledged the contribution of all Stakeholders in the successful organizing of the 9th Convocation. He advised the degree holders to make the best use of their knowledge, skills, values and attitude learnt at Eternal University. As the day came to an end, Eternal University bid adieu to yet another batch of brilliant minds.

In this way, the 9th Convocation Ceremony ended with a ray of hope and joy that is sure to inspire the students and faculty of this University in the years ahead.
