Course Overview

Agriculture is the main occupation of the people of Himachal Pradesh and has an important place in the economy of the State. Himachal Pradesh is the only State in the country whose 89.96 per cent population (Census 2011) lives in rural areas. Therefore dependency on Agriculture/ Horticulture is eminent as it provides direct employment to about 62 per cent of total workers of the State and the farmers are using various farming system and traditional technology for cultivating the crops, So we have an immense scope for disseminating the modern technology among the farmers. An agricultural extension service provides technical aid to farmers on any agricultural issues. It works to supply them with the essential inputs and services that support and increase their agricultural production. New ideas and techniques developed by the agricultural scientific research centres are dispersed among the farmers by the agricultural extension activities. Although by using extension service we can make farmers aware about the various schemes launched by State/Govt. of India for the farmer’s welfare. At present there are very few institutions which are providing degree in M.Sc. (Agri.) Agricultural Extension Education. This course is also provides the following placement opportunities: various posts of Teaching Associate, Assistant Professor, Subject Matter Specialist, JRF, SRF, Young Professional I & II in government and Semi Government Colleges/ Universities/ NGOs in India and Abroad. This course opens the various placement doors for the candidate in the field of Research & Development like Research Analyst, Observer etc. Eligibility for the Ph.D Programme/ PDF research and other opportunities in ICAR & Abroad.
