Course Overview

Department of Food Technology was established in 2014 with M.Sc. Food Science & Technology program. The department received grant-in aid of 75 lakh from Ministry of food Processing Industries (MOFPI), Govt. of India, for creation of infrastructural facilities for starting M. Sc. program in Food Technology. The department has established three state of the art laboratories (Food Chemistry and Analysis, Food instrumentation and Quality Control and Food Microbiology) and five Pilot Plants (Extrusion, Bakery, Fruit & Vegetable Processing, Retort pouching and Packaging) equipped with sophisticated modern instruments. Students get exposed to these facilities even at undergraduate level so that they get expertise in handling equipment and get placed in highly reputed industries and organizations. The major equipment (each costing more than 2.5 lakhs) available in these laboratories and pilot plants include, Phase contrast Microscope, Lovibond Tintometer, Vis Spectrophotometer, Retort Pouch Machine, Form Filling & Sealing Machine, Boiler, Rotary Vacuum Flash Evaporator, Food Extruder, Automatic Nitrogen/Protein Analyser, Crude fibre analyser, Solvent Extraction system, and Refrigerated Centrifuge, freeze dryer etc.

The ICAR Model course curriculum and syllabus is being followed in M. Sc. Food Technology.there are 55 credits with 35 credits for course work and 20 for thesis work.in addition, there are 08 compulsory non-credit courses. In addition, The students are required to undertake compulsory four to six –weeks training (preferably during semester break) in a reputed food industry/organization after completion of major courses.

Eligibility

Bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks in Medical/Non-medical/Horticulture/ Agriculture/ Post harvest technology/ Food and Nutrition/Biotechnology/ Home Science/ Biochemistry from a recognized university.
