Course Overview

BA (Hons.) Music is offered by the Dept. of Music under three respective streams e.g. Gurmat Sangeet, Music Instrumental (in nine type of string instruments) and Tabla in percussion. The main aim of the department is to provide in-depth knowledge of the subject both from theoretical as well as from practical aspects. It is a performance oriented programme which trains the students to showcase their skills in the field of Gurmat Sangeet, North Indian Classical Ragas in Instrumental and solo performance with Tabla. Special feature of this programme is that all students are taught Tabla as a minor subject to profound their knowledge of Indian Taalas. Students are acquainted with 20-25 Raagas along with other specific musical compositions by the end of the course.

Career Opportunities

The programme provides basis for the career in the field of music as it gives necessary vocal as well as instrument training to be developed profusely. Students can opt following careers after completion of their degree:

  • Music teacher in school at TGT and PGT levels
  • Performer as Kirtaniyan or You-tuber for performance or teaching
  • Pursue higher studies or develop skills of other branches of music
