With an objective of attracting young talent to pursue higher education and research career in basic sciences, the College currently offers three undergraduate, six postgraduate and six doctoral programs across emerging disciplines encompassing Botany, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics and Zoology. All departments are equipped with ICT-enabled classrooms and world-class laboratories with excellent research infrastructure and advanced facilities. Additionally, a centralized learning management system and a comprehensive library support the teaching and research activities.
In alignment with NEP-2020, Akal College of Basic Sciences is offering four-year undergraduate programmes viz. B.Sc. (Hons. with Research) Life Sciences, B.Sc. (Hons. with Research) Microbiology and B.Sc. (Hons. with Research) Physical Sciences from academic session 2024-25 as per Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF).
Students at Akal College of Basic Sciences are actively engaged in both basic and applied scientific research under the mentorship of committed and distinguished faculty members. The major research and extension thrust areas include biodiversity documentation and taxonomy, medicinal plants, plant taxonomy, surfactant chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, heat and mass transfer, reliability theory, fractional differential equations, image processing, wavelet analysis, biological control, eco- friendly pest management, bio-fertilizers, antimicrobial resistance in bacteria, gastrointestinal helminths, biofuels, metagenomics, rhizosphere microbiology, microbial proteomics, materials science and nanotechnology and solar-based indigenous technologies.
