Course Overview

Ph.D. Botany also includes research on various fields such as on Medicinal Plants, Taxonomy of Angiosperms, Plant Pathology, Mycology, Cytogenetics & Plant Breeding, Plant Physiology, Plant Biotechnology, Algae, Lower Cryptogams & Natural Plant Products.

Annually department conduct botanical field excursion and make aware the students of Botany about the importance of local flora, biodiversity and applied aspects of plants. Students also prepare herbarium during these activities. Students of M.Sc. Botany along with Ph.D. students visit annually to the scientific research institutes like Botanical Survey of India (BSI) Dehradun; Forest Research Institute (FRI) Dehradun, CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT) Palampur, etc. and they are allowed to interact with scientists to grasp knowledge of current research in the field of botany. Department of Botany is equipped with modern technology to assist the teaching with projectors, PPTs, animations, specimens, models, etc. to the students in smart as well as online classes. Weekly assignments, surprised tests, oral questionings, tutorials and special hours for the solution of student’s doubts in their papers & subjects are some of the student centric methods adopted in the department of Botany. Students are involved in subject problems to solve it practically using laboratory equipment, chemicals, models, etc. M.Sc. students are provided with research problems of their interest on which they work and submit short dissertation / thesis report at the end of their course program.

Eligibility

M.Sc. Botany or Life Sciences, Plant Physiology, Economic Botany, Plant Pathology, Forestry, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Biochemistry, Bio -Sciences, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Environmental Sciences, Horticulture with 55% marks and 50% marks in Eternal University entrance test.
